Riding Horses and Learning About God

Burke, Texas (KETK) – When many people think of Texas they think of horses, some even come here to learn to ride.

There are many places that offer riding lessons but not many like Cowboy and The Princess Ranch in Burke.

They like to do things a bit differently.

Horse riding camp participants ride in style atop their horses during a trail ride at Cowboy and The Princess Ranch on Wednesday. From the left, Alex and Hill Keath, 11 and 6, double on horse, Hallelujah; Kam Schroeder, 11, in overalls, rides on her mare, Beauty; Remi Radke, 11, wearing pink, rides on Carmel; Rocco Radke, 8, rides atop Julliette; Clara Keath, 9, rides on Lesa; and Mark Reilman, 25, trails in the back riding on Zonta.

“This place is based on a message of hope,” said Denise Wilson, owner of Cowboy and The Princess Ranch. “I told The Lord if He would sustain it I would run it for Him.”

Denise Wilson works mostly with children and says some just need some peace in their life.

The ranch does have a structure of sorts but Wilson still wants to let kids be kids.

The main goal of the ranch is for children to know someone out there cares about them.

“The biggest thing that I want to kids to leave here with is that someone cares,” said Wilson. Somebody cares about you and what you have to say is important and what’s going on in your life is important. The Lord always cares, there is always somebody who cares. There’s children that are bullied and the suicide among our children is astonishingly high. There is always someone who cares.”

Remi Radke, 11, rides her horse, Carmel, through a large puddle of water and up a steep hill during horse riding camp while Denise Wilson, Cowboy and The Princess Ranch owner, lends a hand on Wednesday.

Ranch life is taken seriously at Cowboy and The Princess, many students have taken notice to Wilson’s attention to detail.
